CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) are incredibly useful networks of distributed servers which aim to provide high-availability, low-latency access to static content from any geographical location.  The addition of an Internet Exchange in Liverpool could mean the possibility of a Content Delivery server, which would reduce latency of static content serving for local residents. Meetup

I started out studying Digital Electronics. I’ve been working as a developer for about seven years, mostly in small teams doing new stuff like startups, alphas and new products. I currently work part time for Co-op digital and a privacy & security agency called IF. I’ve been using exclusively GNU/Linux since 2001, I dabble in a bit of crypto, run a Tor node, and support the Internet Freedom movement. I’m particularly interested in making powerful technology like crypto useable and seamless for ordinary people.  In this talk, I’ll be reporting on some of the highlights of the Internet Freedom Festival in Valencia. Meetup

May 25th, 2017, 18:00 hrs –Dealing with a Media Crisis in the Digital Age - by Mick Ord LinkDownloads
From small businesses to large organisations reputation is key to any organisation, and getting it right, online and offline,  can be a tricky business, even when things are going well – no matter how experienced you and your management team are.   During a crisis, many people put their head in the sand, give out the wrong messages or put inexperienced staff or management in front of the media, all without fully understanding the implications and potential long term damage to their organisation.  We’ve asked former senior BBC editor and journalist Mick Ord, who has been working at the sharp end of broadcasting for over 30 years, to share with us his valuable stories and insights gained from his many years’ experience in the media industry. Meetup

For the more seasoned of us, are we at the peak of IOT gimmicky products and hype? Has the bubble now burst and will application after application become viable and then valuable? The Internet of Things presents society with some amazing opportunities, changing the way we live, work, specialise and even shop, but there is a growing undertone of insecure devices and systems, with threats lurking in every corner as cyber thief’s, hackers and even competitors are more than happy to exploit your open and accessible devices.
